When referencing an online article or other informative page that is no longer available, you most often want the latest draft for the possible corrections and addenda.
With the Wayback Machine this can be achieved in a way by using the (redirecting) URL format https://web.archive.org/web/2100/https://example.com/ , but sadly the latest snapshot is often undesirable:
- frequent blank, 404 error, and parked pages
- redirects to the homepage or a seemingly unrelated third-party domain (a potential change in ownership)
Some third-party software projects and/or Internet Archive's API may offer this functionality via filtering.
Does the website have any form of support outside of manually selecting the last archived live copy in the calendar view¹ (displayed in blue, while the green colour signifies redirects)?
¹ As an example, the AnandTech article URLs have seemingly redirected to their forums since around August 2025. The publication was discontinued in the preceding year.
