Can a Gmail filter be created with a wildcarded domain?

There's a lot of contradictory information out there, including on Google's own help sites, regarding wildcarding in filters. Apparently it does work, at least to some degree. Unfortunately, all the examples I see use wildcarding of addresses within a fixed domain e.g. *@abc.com. That's not my problem, however.

I get mail from a domain which has a number of subdomains, and I want a filter that applies to all of them. For example fred@server1.abc.com, fred@server2.abc.com, fred@server3.abc.com. Can I create a wildcarded filter to match them all, like fred@*.abc.com?This is rather hard for me to test effectively myself, unfortunately, hence my question here. I appreciate any insights.
