How to keep a google sheet open when multi-tasking on IOS?

I'm using Google Sheets on an iPhone X running iOS 13.1.1.

When I:

1. open a sheet in the native Google Sheets app (i.e. installed from the Apple App Store, not visiting sheets.google.com in a mobile web browser),
2. and then use another another (not memory intensive) app for 30 seconds,
3. and then reopen the Google Sheets app (either by tapping the app icon, or swiping up to select the app from the list of backgrounded apps)
4. the sheet is no longer open and I need to reopen it and rescroll to my desired location in the sheet.

Is there any way to get the Google Sheets app to keep the sheet open and scrolled to the same place?

I tested this using the built-in iOS timer app.
