Is youtube's excluded search buggy?

Is anyone able to explain how youtube's excluded search works? It seems to be buggy.

If I type into search box: foo -barI expect it should list all movies with phrase "foo" (either in movie title, channel name or description) excluding movies that have phrase "bar" (in movie title, channel name or description). Simple, right?

Let me show you an example proving that it's broken or something more is at play here.

Steps to reproduce:

  1. search for "baldurs gate" game series
  2. order by view count
  3. notice the 4th video in results titled "Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition 1.3 Trailer" (it's about BG1)
  4. search for "baldurs gate -II" (to exclude movies about Baldur's Gate II)
  5. order by view count
  6. video "Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition 1.3 Trailer" doesn't show in the search results anymore.

Why? It doesn't have any "II" phrase in the title and yet it has been excluded!

By what crooked logic youtube's algorithm has decided to filter this movie out as well?
