How to setup email forwarding for subdomains? e.g. user@foo.bar.com -> recipient@gmail.com

I recently purchased a domain from Google domains, and am using email forwarding to forward emails to a specific gmail address.

As of right now, emails forward from an address under the format of user@domain.com; is it possible to forward emails from an address under the format of user@subdomain.domain.com?

In the DNS, I've created a new MX record under the name of subdomain.domain.com and set the value the same as Google's default MX records. However, I am now stuck on how to forward emails from user@subdomain.domain.com to my gmail account.

I would appreciate if anybody could help me with this, thank you.

P.S/ Whenever I use the normal email forwarding option given by Google domains and try to forward user@subdomain.domain.com to my gmail address, it says "invalid alias". So that's not an option

Google MX records available at https://support.google.com/domains/answer/9428703?hl=en-GBGoogle's support article on forwarding emails (doesn't work for the problem described in my question - i.e. only allows email forwarding from user@domain.com) at https://support.google.com/domains/answer/3251241?hl=en-GB#emailForwardingQuestion that I previously looked at - gave me the idea of mirroring the google MX records. The issue with this questionw as that it had a solution for google workspace and I do not have google workspace, available here: How can I setup Google Apps Email for a subdomain?

Thank you
