Using URL to populate Google Sheets cells

If I have a user click a URL for a Google Sheet but append the URL they click with parameters (ie. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1N0qkLWp3fUm3xpp328MnIz8W4JdBR0990oPU8YW8G0E/edit?playerID=987654) where playerID is the parameter I want to copy into cell A1 of the Google Sheet in the link, how do I do this? If I can just pass the entire URL to cell A1, that's fine, I'll parse out the variable in a function.
