I hadn't logged into my account in probably a year or two, maybe more, and moved to a different country 6 years ago.
I tried to signup, but I thought it'd be easier to just create a new password and log it somewhere safe this time, rather than hunt for the old one.
Unfortunately, the action to send my device a code to prove my identity didn't send me a code. And the action to send my email address a reset link didn't work either. I wrote to the Support page, and they asked me to send:
- IPv4 address
- date of birth
- email address associated to the account
- phone number
I sent them this information from my email address, the same one that is associated with the Twitch account. Of course the IP and phone might have changed in the past 5 years, depending on what they had on file.
After reviewing my answers, they told me that I was not the owner of the account associated to my email address, and that they couldn't tell me much more, in order to protect the identity of their user who is using my email address to login but isn't me:
Unfortunately, after reviewing the information provided for theaccount we were not able to match it with the information we have onfile for the account. As a result, in order to maintain the privacyand security of the account, we will not be able to grant youownership to this account at this time.
This ridiculous situation is not only unnerving because I cannot access my account, but also because they make it sound like someone else is using my email address linked to their account. They also hold my personal information hostage without allowing me to edit, retrieve or delete it. On top of it, their claim that I do not own my (secured) email address is easy to disprove, and all they had to do is send me a Password reset link to my email and I would have been able to use the account.
Is there anything I could do to appeal this dead-end?
