I want to use an OTP App on my smartphone to use two-factor authentication with my Google Account. However, I do not want Google to know my cell phone number. I use a different app and not the Google Authenticator. I need the QR Code that Google creates in the process of setting 2FA up. However, in that process, Google always requires me to pass my cell phone number to validate my device via some SMS. I want to avoid that. Is that possible?
