Is there a way in Google Sheets to automatically highlight the highest / lowest number in a range with a cell format colour?

Is there a way in Google Sheets to automatically highlight the highest / lowest number in a range with a cell format colour ?

Ive been trying using min() / max() and then build conditional formatting from the output of that, but it seems to have a quite a few moving parts, is there another more semantic way to do this ?
