I am receiving order and shipment confirmation emails for another Amazon customer. My email address is first.last@gmail.com. The other customer is using my address without the period, firstlast@gmail.com. Gmail ignores the period and considers those to be the same email address.
I am unable to contact the customer, as the emails from Amazon only contain the first name, town and state of the customer. The purchases are associated with a valid Amazon order number and USPS tracking number. I have received two orders placed by the same individual. I am able to view the shipping status of their order by following the link in the email without being authenticated to their account. I checked, thinking at first, that my account had been compromised, it has not.
I submitted a detailed report to Amazon and they replied with a number to call that has an automated system and a long wait time.
Is this associated with a scam or is someone simply using the incorrect email address?
Thank you.
