From time to time I put some old items of mine on hood.de to sell them. I don't make any profit: going to the garbage bin is definitely cheaper and takes less time than taking photos, constructing a legally correct text that won't harm me, uploading everything online, communicating with (potential) buyers, packaging, buying the stamps (perhaps printing them), going to the post office, etc., and all that, for, usually, 1 € plus postage. Money-wise or time-wise, it's a non-business. If I put my old stuff on eBay, I'd even lose money directly this way, as eBay proudly takes 10% upon selling. However, I do care about reducing the amount of garbage (produced per time unit) on our mother Earth and therefore sell old stuff anyway in hope that someone would use it instead of buying something new. I don't give my old stuff away for charity, as what I hear is that the items given away for charity in the place I live in seldom reach their target.
Having said that, I observed that hood.de says that an item usually gets somewhere between 0 and 10 page views within 2 weeks, which is the usual life time of an auction. When this life time expires, an item typically goes unsold, and then I put it again online with a slightly reduced price. It is unclear to me how many of these 0-10 page views are real and how many come from Web crawlers that report themselves, say, as, e.g., Internet Explorer, to the server. What can I do to increase the real visibility of my items (example: http://www.hood.de/i/jeans-wrangler-mustang-30-32-84975474.htm )? It has to be quick, cost no money, and should not (at least, not directly) involve my friends or relatives (who are partially aware of what I sell and would get the stuff for free, and I don't wish all of them to know what exactly I sell and why) or co-employees (with whom I maintain a strict work-only relationship). Experience reports concerning selling used goods on hood.de are welcome. The question also explicitly includes other auction sites (but I haven't used any except eBay and hood, so, though you can produce a generic answer, taking hood.de as an example would be overwhelmingly welcome, and taking other sites would be absolutely useless to me personally).
